There is now more proof that Xbox owners won't be seeing another generation of their favourite console until 2006. TeamXbox posted a story on its website on Friday speculating that the Xbox 2 will be powered by a 65-nanometer CPU, designed by IBM. This could potentially allow the Xbox 2 to run at 5GHz; as any PC owner will tell you, that's immensely powerful.
The development time it would take to convert this chip to run in an Xbox would suggest that a 2006 release is almost certain, which in turn implies that the Xbox 2 will be released after the PlayStation3. With details of Xbox 2 pencilled in for unveiling at the Games Developers' Conference in March, it's an exciting time for Xbox fans.
