Nintendo &
Pokemon Co makeup over 60% of all sales in the Top 100 compared to under 50% last year. Most of the increase is due to the launch of
Legends: Z-A
Not a single third party publisher managed to surpass
1 million units in the Top 100 something
Square, Konami managed last year.
Konami did manage to be the top in terms of the third parties their decline YoY is going to be less than 20% when official numbers come in.
Square likely will finish ahead of
Capcom when official numbers come out due to better legs for titles outside of the Top 30 but they will likely have a decline of over 55% YoY due to weaker slate of games in 2025
Capcom might come in 5th or 6th due to
Monster Hunter Wilds with a 450% increase YoY but when we compare results to the launch year of
Rise or
World its over 70% less than 2021 and over 60% less than 2018.
Bandai will have a slight increase YoY mainly stemming from
Tamagotchi Plaza doing great and not having any hits in 2024. It's possible they end up overtaking
Capcom depending on how their titles did outside of the Top 30
Microsoft are nearly flat YoY with
Minecraft while
Koei Tecmo & Sony right behind.
Koei last year didn't have a single game in the Top 100 so a huge growth YoY as in 2024 their top selling SKU was
Winning Post 10 with
18K units, when official numbers come in its possible Koei ended up ahead of
Microsoft.
Sony on the other hand is down over 30% YoY mainly because they only published two new titles and didnt have a forced bundle for much of the year.
We have a few more third party publishers that managed over
200K units
Sega/Atlus,
Aniplex,
Marvelous and maybe
Level 5. Sega/Atlus had a big drop YoY from selling nearly
1 million to just about hitting
300K. Aniplex, Marvelous and Level 5 on the other hand had much stronger year compared to 2024 where none made the Top 15.
Rounding up the Top 10 we have
EA as the only Western AAA publisher represented in the rankings and

In the end this year was the Switch 2 story and honestly third parties didn't capitalize in terms of new titles exclusive to the system besides the new
Hyrule Warriors. Most puzzling is the case of
Konami since games like
Silent Hill f & Snake Eater could have targeted the system and had much higher potential compared to what they ended up selling in Japan. As
Konami has been riding high these past few years in Japan mainly due to the success of their Switch lineup. It would have made more sense to push these games back and add a Switch 2 version while further polishing them. In the end of the day
Konami are probably still okay with the results but I think with more time as a Switch 2 SKU at a later launch date could have easily doubled their physical totals.
